Decisions and change previews
One list of the choices waiting for you, the latest changes to your site, and a page for each change showing its pull request and how it will publish.
Decisions gathers everything that needs your input in one list: report steps, ideas to approve, pull requests to review and checks that found a problem. Below that list it shows the latest changes to your site. Each change has its own page, the change preview, which shows its pull request and how it will publish. Ivy Link doesn't take screenshots of changes yet, so you check how a change looks in your host's preview build, linked from the pull request on GitHub.
How you get there
Decisions isn't in the sidebar. You reach it in these ways:
- Go straight to app.ivyl.ink/decisions.
- Your weekly report email says: If we need your input, you'll find the details in Decisions. See Weekly reports.
- Every change preview has a ← Decisions link at the top.
You reach a change preview from:
- Results: See the change on a pull request that fixes your site.
- Decisions: Review on a pull request row, or View change under Site changes.
- Notes: View change: followed by the change's title, on the run that made it.
What's on the Decisions page
From top to bottom:
- Your site's address, the heading Decisions, and the line Review the choices that need your input.
- A counter showing how many decisions are waiting, for example 3 waiting.
- The list of decisions.
- Site changes: your 10 most recently updated pull requests.
- Two links: View all work (opens Results) and Weekly reports (opens Weekly reports).
What a decision row shows
Each row has:
- A label saying what kind of decision it is: Initial report, Suggested work (an idea), Site change (a pull request) or Needs a decision (a check).
- A title and a short line explaining why it's there.
- Added and the date it appeared.
- Buttons. Ideas have Approve, Drop and Details. Every other row has Review.
What can be waiting
The list shows these, in this order.
| Row | Label | What it means | Button goes to |
|---|---|---|---|
| A step in your first report | Initial report | See Report steps. | Review opens your report |
| An idea, from your agents or your report | Suggested work | Work that waits for your OK. | Details opens the idea on Approvals |
| A pull request for a site change | Site change | Review the proposed change and its preview before it is merged. | Review opens the change preview |
| A pull request with new data | Site change | Review the collected data update before it is merged. | Review opens the change preview |
| A check that found a problem | Needs a decision | One of A data check needs attention, A site check needs attention, A search change needs review or A scheduled check needs review. | Review opens Approvals |
Ideas are listed by priority (High, then Medium, then Low), oldest first within each priority. Decisions shows up to 15 ideas at a time. If New ideas is set to Start without asking, your agents start their own ideas, so few wait here.
A pull request row only shows while the pull request is open and waiting on you: a site change opened while your site access was Pull requests, or a data update while your Data updates are set to Pull request. Pull requests Ivy Link merges for you don't wait here. They still appear under Site changes.
A check row shows only for serious findings that haven't become an idea yet. Its text reads This check needs review before work is added. Open Approvals to review the next steps.
Report steps
While your first report is being set up, one of these rows can show. Its Review button opens your report.
| Title | What it says |
|---|---|
| Build your first report | Enter your business, goals and site details. Select Build report when you are ready. (On the onboarding page the button reads Build my report.) |
| Your report is being prepared | Open your plan to see its progress. |
| Your report is almost ready | Your checked report opens in a minute. Open your plan to see it. |
| Your report is paused | Ivy Link is looking at what stopped it. Open your plan for its current status. |
| Choose your first work | Read your checked report, then select the priorities you want Ivy Link to work on. |
See Your first report.
When nothing is waiting
You see a pill reading Up to date, the heading No decisions waiting, and Your checks continue. We will show any choices that need your input here.
Approve or drop an idea from Decisions
- Read the idea's title and why. Click Details to see the full card on Approvals, with its Because line.
- Click Approve to start the work, or Drop to have your agents leave it.
- A notice at the top of the page confirms what happened.
| You click | Notice |
|---|---|
| Approve | Approved. Work follows your site and data access settings. |
| Drop | Dropped. Your agents will leave it. It stays under Dropped on Approvals if you change your mind. |
Approved work then shows on Results. How it ships depends on your site access and data updates settings. See Ship changes.
To bring back an idea you dropped, open Approvals and find it under Dropped. Click Approve or Send back.
If the idea changed since you loaded the page, for example because it was already approved or dropped, you see a page titled Action needs review with a short line saying what state the idea is in now. Go back to Decisions or Approvals and check it again.
Only the account owner can approve or drop.
Data decisions
If your site has a dataset, data work shows up in Decisions too:
- Data ideas: your agents can suggest ways your data could grow, such as more sources or a new field, or a new page built from your data. On Decisions they show as Suggested work like any other idea. Click Details to see the full idea on Approvals, then approve or drop it.
- Data pull requests: when Data updates is set to Pull request, Ivy Link keeps one pull request with the latest data, updated each day. Its row reads Review the collected data update before it is merged. Merge it when you want the new numbers live.
- A data check needs attention: the daily check found a serious problem with your data. For example, a dataset's latest run is older than yesterday, so there's been no new data for two days or more (it should update every day), or publishing the new data failed, or, with Data updates set to Automatic, new data was collected but hasn't gone live on your site for two days or more.
You choose how data reaches your site under Data updates in Settings: Automatic, Pull request or Paused. While data updates are Paused, the daily data check doesn't flag that dataset. See Data.
Site changes
Under Site changes you see your 10 most recently updated pull requests, data updates included, with the line Your access settings still control publication. Each one has its title (a link), a Publishing: line and a View change button. Both open the change preview. The section only shows once Ivy Link has opened a pull request on your site.
| Publishing | What it means |
|---|---|
| Merged | The pull request is merged. |
| Closed | The pull request was closed without merging. |
| Automatic | Ivy Link merges it on its own once every check on it passes. |
| Your review | It waits for you. Merge it on GitHub, or with Merge on Results when that button shows. |
| Paused | Ivy Link won't merge it on its own. You decide what happens to it on GitHub. |
Paused shows when your site access is Prompts only or your data updates are Paused. It also shows when your site access is Pull requests, merged for you but Ivy Link stopped and left the pull request for you, for example because its checks didn't pass within an hour. That pull request doesn't show as a row on Decisions. Find it on Results, where it carries a note saying why.
The change preview
A change preview shows one pull request. Its address is app.ivyl.ink/decisions/changes/ followed by the change's ID.
What's on the page
- A ← Decisions link back to the list.
- Your site's address followed by Site change.
- The pull request's title as the heading, with the line See how the proposed page looks on desktop and mobile.
- A status pill. Today it reads Preview unavailable. See Preview states.
- An Open pull request button. It opens in a new tab.
- The Publishing: line, with the same meanings as under Site changes. It's left out when Ivy Link can't tell how the change will publish.
- A panel that reads Preview unavailable and Saved screenshots are not available for this change., with the reason Ivy Link doesn’t take screenshots of changes yet. Open the pull request on GitHub to check its preview build.
Preview states
| Pill | What you see | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Preview unavailable (the normal state) | Saved screenshots are not available for this change. with the reason Ivy Link doesn’t take screenshots of changes yet. Open the pull request on GitHub to check its preview build. | Click Open pull request and use your host's preview build to see the change. |
| New screenshots needed (rare) | The change has a newer version. Earlier screenshots are hidden until the new version is checked. | Open the pull request. |
There are no screenshots to wait for. Ivy Link doesn't take screenshots of changes yet.
If the change doesn't belong to your site, you see a page titled Preview unavailable with This change is not available for this site. If the preview can't load for another reason, the same page says The current preview is not available. Try again in a moment.
Reviewing a change
- Click Open pull request to read the change on GitHub.
- Check how it looks in your host's preview build, linked from the pull request.
- To publish it, merge it on GitHub or with Merge on Results. See Ship changes.
When Ivy Link merges for you, it waits until every check on the pull request has passed. A merged pull request goes live once your site rebuilds.
